About
County Sligo Heritage & Genealogy Centre was established in 1988 to deal with enquiries from people who wished to trace their Co. Sligo ancestry. We are the officially designated genealogical research service for County Sligo and are part of the Irish Family History Foundation’s network of Centres throughout Ireland
There are currently three full time and four part time staff members employed in the Centre, which is located in the Failte Ireland North West Tourism Centre in Temple Street, Sligo.
Since our foundation we have been collecting, indexing and computerising all the major sources for family history research available in Co. Sligo. Our computer database has now over half a million records.
The main sources we use in the course of Genealogical Research are:
- Pre 1900 Church records of Baptism, Marriage and Death
- 1901 Census
- 1911 Census
- Civil Records of Birth & Marriage
- Griffiths Valuation 1858
- Tithe Applotment Books 1823 – 1834
- Gravestone inscriptions
Our experienced researchers are specially trained in genealogical research techniques. Their knowledge of the County and its sources in great detail mean that “no stone will be left unturned” in the course of attempting to discover your ancestral lineage.
